A Special Announcement to Our Fans
Dear derby fans, Since our inception in 2006, the Steel City Derby Demons have made great strides in the sport of roller derby. Through three home seasons our players have developed in skill and achieved ever higher levels of competitive play. In 2007 we put together a team of some of the best skaters from all four of our home teams to play against other leagues. This team would come to be called the Steel Hurtin’. Over the past year, the Steel Hurtin’, has received national attention for a seven game winning streak against opponents from across the country. Our second travel team, the B-Unit, has garnered attention of its own, winning five of seven games. The Steel City Derby Demons love representing Pittsburgh in the Women’s Flat Track Roller Derby rankings and strive to be the best. In the interest of pursuing our highest possible potential, we made the difficult decision to discontinue our home team structure and move to a travel team only structure. With this new structure, we can provide a longer season for our fans to enjoy more games and three Steel City teams that all represent Pittsburgh against visiting teams from across the country. Many skaters that you know and love from the Bitch Doctors, Hot Metal Hellions, Slumber Party Slashers and Wrecking Dolls will still be playing together on one of our three interleague teams. In addition, we’re excited about our very promising up and coming rookies making their debut against Rubber City Roller Girls at our September 19th bout. The Steel City Derby Demons are growing and have some big things in store for next season. We are grateful to continue to skate for you, our fans, and to serve up the most thrilling and hard hitting roller derby around! Sincerely, Tuesday, June 9, 2009
Harrisburg Away Game Recap
The SCDD's trip to Harrisburg was fun, exciting, gut-wrenching, and heart breaking all at once. The B-Unit kicked off the night by beating the Harrisburg Fallout Femmes 94 - 85. Not all of the B-Unit could make the trip but they had help from the likes of BB Basher, Dirty Merdi, Auntie Establishment, and J-Bomb, who all came over from the Steel Hurtin' to help them out. The Steel Hurtin game, however, was another story entirely. The Hurtin' were blood thirsty for revenge and fought the hardest and most passionate game that this reporter has ever witnessed. The teams remained within only a few points of each other for the entire game, but sadly in the very last few minutes, Harrisburg managed to eke out 3 extra points to beat the Pittsburgh 175 - 178. It was a heartbreaking defeat, but there is a silver lining. Last November, Harrisburg beat the Hurtin' by over 100 points. This time, they only managed to squeek by with 3. The girls of the SCDD are serious about derby and improving themselves every single day. There's bright future for this league, and we won't let defeat get us down. Friday, May 29, 2009

Planet of the Skate Wrap-Up
Saturday's game had another bittersweet ending. The Steel Hurtin' once again wowed the crowed with their amazing derby prowess and beat Lancaster PA's Duchland Rollergirls by a sizable margin. The ending score was 230-82. Unfortunately, although the B-Unit held the lead for most of their game, the ladies of Buffalo, NY were able to creep back up, jam by jam, to win by only two points in the very last jam. It was a heartbreaking loss for the B-Unit but it was no doubt an exciting game for the players and the fans! Thanks to both Duchland and Queen City for playing awesome games, fighting hard, and showing exemplary sportsmanship! Tuesday, April 14, 2009
